4x4 friday - spirit

very interesting theme this week at 4x4 friday: "spirit", open to many interpretations...

i came across this pic and decided to go with the spirit of adventure...
the story is well known: this is the mouth of truth (la bocca della verità) in rome, a marble-carved face, portraying one of several possible pagan gods (probably oceanus). this mouth is said to be a lie detector: starting from the middle ages, it was believed that if one told a lie with one's hand in the mouth of the sculpture, it would be bitten off. the piece is placed in the portico of a church, which is also home to the supposed relics of the saint, st valentine.

now: would you dare to lie with your hand in the mouth? ;)

What a really great card and I love that image of the stone face. If I were to put my hand in its mouth I might just get a little manicure! ;)

Johanna - have you seen the old black and white movie, "Roman Holiday", with Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck? There is a very funny scene featuring the "face of truth" where Audrey is persuaded to put her hand in its mouth.
I love your take on the theme. Nice collage!

Well, live and learn! Johanna, I had never heard that before although I am of the same vintage as Marie and probably saw Roman Holiday, too. Her memory is better than mine.

Your card is really amazing. I love all the detail and effort you've put into it.
